DIARY OF MY HUSBAND'S ILLNESS: DEAR ALZHEIMER'S:

home
MAY 2005

Serendipity at a Poetry Therapy Workshop:
We're Instructed to Interview the Person Sitting Next to Us

                                                    for Norma Leedy

There must have been an angel
sitting here between us
waiting for our pens to meet
over husbands' slipping minds.
Norma and Esther
recording their stories:
Jack:
forty-five years of patients,
patients and poetry.
Abe:
forty-five years of study
and  peering
through a microscope:
oncology cells ...
cell
after cell
of stunning
destruction.
Two doctors' wives
reeling.
Dear Alzheimer's,
why
did you pick
our sheltered
lives
to visit?
